There are hundreds of books - including many of the "great ones" - available in hypertext on the internet. The lists for such books are quite long (on the order of 700 k and larger) so expect that they will load slowly.

For those of you dismayed by 800-pagers, there is a service for you: a collection of books which have been "squashed" by removing pages of content not necessarily required by the story line. These are not re-written books, but original text which has had chunks of it removed. You may find this interesting.
